THERE! I FIXED THE MOVIE! MINI - Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Of all the films in the MCU, the Ant-Man movies are the most that I have no opinion on. I mean, they’re definitely fine movies. They were just nice little moments of levity in between major tentpoles of the Infinity Saga, particularly with Ant-Man and the Wasp being the breather fans needed after that “holy shit” ending of Infinity War. But then we get to Quantumania, easily the worst of this series and the worst MCU movie in years. The sad thing is, for the most part, it was actually doing a lot of things right…by Ant-Man standards. The comedy was still hit and miss, even if I felt the lack of Luis, the effects like MODOK weren’t great but still fun, and Paul Rudd was still Paul Rudd-ing all over the place. For the most part, they were playing their cards right. But there was one part of the movie that not only completely ruined everything, but decimated it. And hey, let’s talk about it.

I feel as though the movie’s biggest problem is the ending. Here’s the sitch - Ant-Man and Wasp defeat Kang, get out of the quantum realm and everything’s all peachy keen. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “why’s that a problem? That’s how the other Ant-Man movies end.” Well, there was another ending planned in which Ant-Man and Wasp, in fact, didn’t defeat Kang. He gets let loose into the world seeking revenge on those who banished him, leaving Ant-Man and Wasp trapped in the quantum realm, leaving on a cliffhanger that ultimately sets up the danger that Kang poses in the saga. Why the chocolate-covered piss did they not go with that? The way the film ends as is, Kang just ends up going out just like an inconvenience for the duo and nothing is ultimately lost. Seriously, if the big bad of the Multiverse Saga can be easily defeated by Ant-Man, then to quote another Marvel hero, that’s just lazy writing. I get it, compared to Thanos, who was a gargantuan alien warlord, Kang’s just…a human guy, but both seasons of Loki set Kang up as someone to be feared, someone to dread rather than to brush off. But I do get it if they wanted to go this route, especially considering Jonathan Majors' recent firing from Marvel, so if you had to properly defeat Kang, give the fans what they want: have Ant-Man go up Kang’s butthole and kill him from within…okay, not really, I just love that joke. But the fact is, if you go for the original ending that sets Kang up as a legitimate threat and leaves off on a haunting cliffhanger, then consider the movie fixed. What do you think?
