There! I Fixed the Movie!

Hey, remember when Family Guy killed off Brian? I remember. The episode "Life of Brian" took the world by storm for its twist, actually killing a major player in Family Guy...until they brought him back a couple episodes later. And the episodes that followed afterwards? Needless to say, it was enough to make people wish Brian was never resurrected, since he would end up cucking Joe, scamming Quagmire and giving a baby herpes (trust me, it makes sense in context). But "Brian's a Bad Father" is arguably Brian at his worst. And as I and many other people have pointed out, this episode should've been something worthwhile. How? Well, let's get into it. I'm gonna split this into two sections, one for each of the two plots this episode juggles between. Let's start with the Brian plot.   I’ve made it no secret in the past that I love the series Gravity Falls. The comedy always gets a knee-slap outta me, the weirdness of the town is wildly creative, the characters are all filled with personality and wit, and the strong emotional core had me often holding back tears. It’s made its way up to one of my favorite animated series of all time, if not my favorite. But every series has its roadside attraction. Gravity Falls’ was Roadside Attraction. I’d like to point out and say I don’t think this episode is bad, there’s still some good content to be found, I just find it pretty forgettable, hackneyed, surprisingly tonally inappropriate, ill-timed, and above all, kinda pointless.   While I don't think South Park is as good as it was back in its prime, I still find it an entertaining and often hilarious show, from the recent Paramount+ movies and even some of the new episodes. It's not all perfect, like I don't know anyone who'd complain if they dropped Tegridy Farms, but it's still impressive how well the satire is played out in each satire. Even back in 2017, the twenty-first season had some fantastic moments at play, especially when they tied into Fractured But Whole.  However, there's also the episode 'Doubling Down', which could've and should've been the season's most thought-provoking episode, but there was one massive problem that hindered the whole thing.   To say that The Inbetweeners is regarded by many as a staple of British comedy is a huge understatement. Not only did the show garner a cult following resulting in the show still being quoted to this day, and not only did the popularity result in two movies, but the film was also popular enough to be given an American rendition, which ended up being a massive failure. If The Office was the Suzume  of American remakes, then The Inbetweeners was the Doogal . It's fascinating how practically every element of the show feels wrong, especially when comparing it to the original. Hey, I never said we'd be solely focusing on fixing movies. I absolutely love  the show How I Met Your Mother . It may not have aged the greatest, but its relatable characters, great comedy and surprisingly deep emotional aspects elevate it to one of my favorite sitcoms of all time. With that said, the last episode, Last Forever, is where they really shat the bed. I'll get into more detail as we go on, but with how it’s presented, it feels like everything the show was building up to was entirely undone. And the worst of it all is that this episode could’ve been really great. So that’s what I’m here to do, I’m here to try and make this finale work.
